WEBINAR LIVE
The crisis of Western democracies: what perspectives for our socio-economic system?

The recent years have been marked by shocks and new crises to which Europeans were no longer used to. Economic stagnation, a global pandemic, populism, and even conflicts close to our borders have indeed posed increasingly greater challenges for our democracies, seemingly in a crisis of identity.
Are we really facing a true crisis of the Western model of development? What impact do the wars close to us have and will have on economies and democracies? What must we do to preserve our well-being and our democratic model?
The aim of this meeting is to offer participants the opportunity to reflect on the major challenges facing Western democracies in the context of an increasingly divided and conflict-ridden world. To do this, they will be able to engage with Michele Boldrin, a renowned international economist. In particular, the following topics will be discussed:

  • Crisis of globalization and its enemies
  • Are the "enemies," real or perceived, of democracy all the same? The cases of China and Russia
  • Economic perspectives and scenarios for this new historical phase.

Speaker

Michele Boldrin

Professore di Economia, Washington University in Saint Louis; Condirettore del Center for Dynamic Economics.
